While we were visiting Sturgis last month, Shon had the same problem. His 
chain was replaced and the problem went away. He had tons of grime under the 
cover for the front sprocket which is suspected to be the source of most of 
the noise.

Maybe cam chain/valves? When you throttle off any excess slack can make the
cam chain tinkle.
