Yes, that's expected behavior. The stock tune is pretty lean at low and 
mid RPMs to satisfy emissions laws. Using the "race only" tune really 
enriches the mixture at low and mid RPMs, which is why the race tune 
gives such a nice boost in mid-range power. Side effects of this include 
slightly reduced mileage and increased carbon build-up on the silencer.
