[ST] california spec bikes

I purchased my Sprint ST in 1999 from a Santa Cruz CA dealer, but since I'm 
no longer living on the west coast, I was thinking of "converting" my bike 
back to 48 state spec?  Does anyone know if you can just "cut" out the 
charcoal canister from the system? What other stuff has to come out to 
complete the conversion?
