RE: [ST] Re: Break In Advice?

Well sheeot. My first bike was an '81 Virago. Needless to say, it was well
past its prime. My second bike was my beloved ST. After plunking down over
$12K cash, I wasn't about to do anything to hurt it. Through all of the many
discussions about break-in procedures, I always thought that some voice of
reason would break in and say, no...you need to do it the manufacturer's way
because of this, and this, and this.

I'm not conviced that staying within the manufacturer's reccommended limits
did any damage to my bike. *BUT*, for those of us who may have be (or will)
be first time buyers of a new bike, the manufacturer should provide more
comprehensive break-in instructions. More than just keep the RPM's under
this and try to vary them. Things like, do a full power pull up a medium
hill up to X RPS X times. Ensure X heat/cool cycles occur within X miles.
Hell, I probably did my 500 mile break-in in one or two rides.

Can't blame the dealer. Can't expect them to contradict the manufacturer's
manual!

Rant over.
