[ST] Fuel guage question

Hello all,

I know the fuel guage sender issue has been driven into the ground, but I have
searched the archives and I think my issue is slightly different.

Last night on the way home on the interstate my fuel guage suddenly dropped to
empty and the low-fuel light came on. I only had 133 miles on the trip meter,
but I stopped anyway. Sure enough, only 3 1/2 gallons went in. The rest of
the way home, now with a full tank, the fuel guage did not move from empty, nor
did the low-fuel light go off.

Now, I've had a flakey low-fuel light forever just like everyone else, but this
is ridiculous. What I'm wondering is do you think the fuel guage sender has
failed completely, or do you think some connection has just come loose. If you
think it's the latter, can you explain how I would find this connection? Do
you think I can do it myself, or would you recommend going to a dealer?

I would love any advice you all may have. Thanks!
