Well, I took the Thunderbird Sport and RS to Sturgis on Tuesday and I'm
happy to say that Triumph did indeed have their demo truck there.
Still no more substance to add to the 2.2liter rumours. I wonder if the
factory fire affected the 2.2liter announcement.
I test rode a few bikes. Goldwing, K1200LT, K1200RS,Victory?,V-ROD.
Goldwing - gonna buy, unless the 2.2liter is a tourer.
K1200LT - hated it, I mean really hated it. Felt every tiny bump in the
road. The windshield wiggled all over the place and the plastic off the
windshield "warps" your vision when you look through it.
K1200RS - Foot warmer(I mean roaster). Seat is wide and flat and I found the
bike very uncomfortable at least compared to my RS.
Victory - Who cares really? The new bikes that Arlen Ness helped design are
very visually appealing though.
V-ROD - my legs were a little too short for comfort and therefore I also
found the seat a little uncomfortable. But WOW. On our little demo ride we
were going 120mph several times. For most of us though you'll never need to
use gears 3-5. I'm thinking the red-line was around 9,000 rpm. The V-ROD
absolutely blew our minds. I still have a smile on my face and am still in
awe. If you ever get a chance to ride one, do so. 1/4 mile time is
11.9@112mph and it feels much faster because of your seating position and
lack of wind protection.
We were rained on every day, but had a great time. If you've ever been to
the Sturgis Rally, you'll know what I mean. If you've never been to the
rally, you might want to try and go at least once in your lifetime.
