[ST] Urgent chain question...

I'm just replacing my chain and sprockets,  using DID from AFAM.
Unfortunately they are closed today...

When fitting the master link, I installed the side plate, crush-fit per
their destructions, and I find that the center pin only projects a VERY
small amount from the sideplate - I don't want to flare it until I am
certain that this is correct. This doesn't seem normal at all to me, but
since it is 20 years since I replaced a chain (and not an o-ring type at
that), I'm not quite sure what to expect.

Also, the sideplates of the rest of the chain are 2.5mm thick, but the
sideplate of the link is only about 2.2mm thick.  Does this seem right to
anyone?
