I disagree with the mototuneusa guy!
There is more to breaking in a new engine then seating the rings. Just think 
of all the moving parts, bearings, and sliding surfaces. All wearing parts 
should be given a change to "break in". Heat cycling is real and has nothing 
to do with heat treating anything. Hot parts expand, cold contract. The mini 
high spots that are being "broken in" cause local hot spots, so it is best if you 
let things cool down from time to time during break in.
The idea of using big throttle openings is ok. The mototuneuse guys advice 
may work well to seat a new set of rings on a race engine that is not going to 
last 10k miles anyway.
The factory employ smart and experienced people, that know about engines. 
The factory has a vested interest (warranty) in having the engine run well. 
I think I will stick with the factory recommendations, thank you.

Note, I know break-in is a religion to some people, so try not to get carried 
away with this thread.
