RE: [ST] New engine break-in [was Re: My new ST - 2 days old...]

Interesting.

The Lilley guys said that the reason for the 3500rpm limit was in case
something "lets go" on a new bike. Also, to allow the brakes to bed in
without risking trying an emergency stop from high speed, to find that your
brakes arene't quite as good as you hoped!

Anyway, 5K now allows me to overtake without changing gear, which dropped my
commute from 50mins to 30mins this morning! Tee hee.

However, I also noticed that about 30 miles ago the engine has developed a
"tingle", at all revs, related to engine speed (not road speed). Any clues?

There have been many examples of excessive oil consumption on
engines where the factory running-in limits have been strictly
observed. If you want the rings to seat properly, suggest you
read http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
for some insight as to why you should be visiting redline right
