The more I think about this, I think you are confusing contact
patch and traction, as we all know, if you remove the fact that
the rubber is a deformable material, it does not matter
how big the contact patch is, with equal weight on that patch you will be
able to be able to transmit a certain amount of force to the ground.
But when you consider that rubber is very deformable, as well each
small amount of material can only take so much stress before it will tear
itself, you need 2 ft. wide tires on the back.
