[ST] RE: st-digest V2002 #728

You lucky person, go for it! You are bringing back many memories...I
used to get there two or three times a year from 1967 1997 and only four
times since. Lots of changes, lots of stories, from camping in the cow
pasture and watching the J-races on the hill and the kootchie dance in
the tent with the light on inside (until the young couple copped on to
the crowds rhythmic cheering), to meeting Sewer Sid and enjoying his
inimitable hospitalty and generosity as he gave a restored Bonnie to a
friend, to rooting for a friend's Triumph Bonneville that won the smoky
burnout contest, to knowing who set the field on fire between 9 and 10
and sending his stoned butt on an airplane ride to he knew not where, to
watching a Harley get high centered, to riding a turbo Rickman Kaw 1075
up from LA, or a Kaw 650 twin in 1970, or a Z1, or a 900SS Ducati, or a
900 Monster, or a Norton, or a Venture Royale, or a 1300 Kaw six, or a
Triumph Trophy 1200, amongst many other things.

Oh yeah, where to sit. Lots of good places, grandstands, etc. Don't sit
in one place until you walk around a bit; but don't miss the corkscrew.
I used to putt about on a Honda 90 in the olden days, and as of late
have been sitting on the hill near turn two...great view of much of the
track. The hill top is a great view if you have binoculars.

Try to get your bike there, the surrounding roads, Laureles Grade,
Carmel Valley G16 and Hwy 1 are not but marvelous. And the food in
Monterey and Carmel.
