engine management light on

Went to start bike today and noticed the Engine Management Light was on. It 
goes OFF when the bike gets running and the bike seems to run fine. It 
stays on, however, with or without the key in, then goes off as soon as the 
bike starts. Any help or ideas? Thanks.
