My '01 RS makes the 'Triumph whine' when cold and at half a tank or less, I
asked my mechanic at Windy corner who said that it is a very common
'characteristic'. It's caused by a disc inside the fuel flow regulator
which when cold vibrates and causes the noise. It does absolutely nothing
to the bike at all apart from making a bit of noise, however, they said that
they will replace it under warranty at the next service and that's without
even asking for it to be done. For all you over the pond it may be worth
badgering Triumph of America, it seems they are very reluctant to do
anything under warranty. In my experience Windy Corner, who are 'very
close!' to the factory will do absolutely anything required, without even
being asked sometimes, and I believe that is Triumph UK's policy. Go on
kick some butt, it would be unlike you Americans not to!!! ;-)
