[ST] Flat spot

I rode an '02 last December and didn't notice anything as bad as Howlin'
describes, but there's no question the new motor is less happy at low revs.
My '00 idles at (and pulls from) a rock steady 1,200rpm (with the CO set at
3%--can't do that with the new closed loop system, I guess), while the '02
would hunt between 1,000 and 1,500.

I also noticed some less than perfectly smooth transitions from
off-throttle to on-throttle, and hunting at neutral throttle openings. It's
not as bad as the TT600, but the older ST/RS engine is typically is as
smooth as silk.

Lean mixture? Airbox plenum not big enough? Intake ports too big..? Is the
extra top end power worth the loss of low-rev smoothness?

We'll see...
