Re: [ST] Tire question

>(Is anyone running Metzlers?)

Yes, MEZ4s front and rear.

Agree 100%. My main reasons for liking the Metzlers are:

1. Progressive and linear profile. Some tires (like the older D205s and
the BT57s) tend to fall in really quickly. I like the more progressive
feel of the Metzlers.

2. The front tread pattern on the Metzlers does not cup. Every other tyre
that I have tried begins to cup after only a few thousand miles, and are
usually trashed to the point where they have tread but are so badly cupped
that I don't like to ride on them by 5,000 miles. I understand cupping has
little to do with traction, but I also like to be able to take my hands off
the bars at times, and I've forgotten about the 45 MPH wobble a time or too
until it scared the hell out of me.

I find that even though the MEZ4s (also D205s, BT57s) are their "sport
touring" compound, they can handle any kind of riding that you *should* be
doing on the street, and a lot of riding that you should probably leave for
the track but choose to do on the street anyway. :-) I've made many runs
through Deals Gap and the like with these "non-sport tyres" and have never
had a problem other than wearing down peg-feelers and knee-sliders. Plus,
it's nice to be able to be able to make it there and back on the same set
of tyres without resorting to the use of a trailer. But, that's my riding
style, and that may or may not differ from yours. For my riding style, the
Metzler Z4s seem to be the best choice at providing a compromise between
good (not great) mileage, and enough (but not great) stiction, while not
bankrupting me too badly. YMMV.
