RE: [ST] Battery Charging

Do you or does anyone have any info to substantiate this? I use a Battery
Tender Plus between 3 bikes, I just unplug from one's pigtail and plug
into the next every few days and have never power cycled the BT during the
changes. I've been doing this for a couple of winters now and all
batteries seem to be maintained fine.

What info do you have that makes you think this?

I can only comment on the Optimate 3, which is a battery checker and
conditioner. It first checks the battery to find out the state of charge
and then runs a holding state charge over 30 mins, if the battery fails it
goes back to a desulphation (deeply depleted battery) charge (22V @ 200mA)
and then checks the battery again every 30 mins. If the battery is holding
a decent charge it will hold a float voltage at 13.6V, if not it goes back
into charge mode and delivers 0.6A until the impedance reaches 14.3V. The
problem with this type of battery 'maintainer' is if the mains isn't reset
the chip can't suddenly understand why the battery impedance has gone from
charged 14.3V to discharged 10V and it will not go back to the start and
retest the battery. I won't go into the boring stuff but a 12V battery isn't
actually 12V at full charge, it's a pint that holds a pint and a half! I'm
not sure if the Tender + actually tests the battery in an attempt to recover
it or it's just a charger in which case it wont matter if the mains isn't
reset.
