[ST] Woo Hoo! Saw the new Mini Cooper today!

Jeff-I actually got to sit in one at the Consumer Electronics Show in
Vegas last week.
Yes, definately cool. I've been a fan since childhood. First car was an
Austin America. 5 Minis in family up to this point.
I was a bit disappointed in the lack of headroom. I'm 6'2" and head was
rubbing. To be fair though, there were a hundred people drooling,
crawling, pawing, panting, etc so I didn't have long to get comfortable
and perhaps adjust the seat. Also, this model had a sunroof, which IME
kills about 2". Hopfully the seat will adjust vertically, (I think it
does). Me head never rubbed on the OLD ONE!
On a sadder note, The local dealer somehow LOST the waiting list that I
was #2 on! I dropped in one day to find out why I wasn't getting any
info, which was promised by 1/02, and found that the person responsible
for Mini had left the company and another guy took over. Told me that
the first 20,000 or so to USA are going to be "you'll take what you get
and like it" and special orders only late '02, but also said they've
been given forceful warnings about "dealer premiums" above MSRP. This
as the Z8 on the floor had a $25,000 markup!
I think I posted before that interest is running 25% Cooper and 75%
Cooper S-and the 1st year import figures were set to be just the
opposite. Last time I talked the new guy said BMW was re-thinking that
ratio.

(Saving ST content for next month's tire thread. If it ever warms up
enough to get the new 207RRs up to temp!)
