[ST] Tire pressure clarification

Sorry to jump in on this issue so late, but today I just received an
ST-digest that was dated 1/22 (definitely an ISP problem with mail delivery,
but that's another story!)

Recently someone posted a question asking for the ST recommended tire
pressures.  A number of people responded with the Triumph recommendations
that are printed in the owner's manual, which is fine.  Whether these are
the 'best' settings is for another discussion.

But it is NOT correct to rely on the information on the sidewall of a given
tire for tire inflation recommendation.  The pressure that you will find on
the tire is the MAXIMUM pressure that the manufacturer recommends (and it is
for SAFETY reasons only).  The manufacturer of the motorcycle is the correct
source for tire pressure settings.  Like I said, I do not intend this remark
to trigger a debate about whether these recommendations should be accepted
without question, or whether they should be adjusted for riding conditions
(like at the track).

You will also find Triumph's tire inflation recommendations on a label
attached to the left side of the single-sided swingarm of the ST (and
assumed to be in the about same place on the RS swing arm), so you do not
need to refer to your owner's manual if you forget when you are at a gas
station.

BTW, the same thing applies to automotive tires.  The manufacturer of the
VEHICLE, not the tire, sets recommended tire inflation.  It's in the owner's
manual, but often you'll find this info on a label in the glove compartment,
under the dash, perhaps under the hood, and sometimes on the inside of the
trunk lid.
