Eric,

I run Avon 39/36, and find this an excellent combination for road and
track - the Sport 39 on the front giving that added bit of confidence.
However, it has to be said that the 36 rear is very prone to breaking loose
on paint or overbanding in the wet. Folks say the newer 46 rear is a LOT
better.

BTW I run 36/42 psi for all applications and get about 4500 miles out of a
front, and just less than 3000 out of a rear.

At my next change (due in about 1000 miles), I plan to fit Avon 49/50 SP. I
would have opted for 49 SP/46 ST, but my pretensions are more track-centric
these days.
