Lisa,

I had the same thing happen on my last change; the previous person
(dealer) must have used an impact wrench on the thing to get it that
tight.  As others have also noted, a large pair of channel locks did
the trick.  Be sure to put a little bit of oil on the O-ring of the
new filter; that will help  prevent it from getting stuck.  Also,
don't over-tighten it; it only needs to go just past hand tight.
