Not that this reply has a damned thing to do with your questions, but....
I had been through 3 sets of BT-020's in 24,000 miles. Good tire, decent
grip, best rain tire I've ever ridden on (still). Obviously, I averaged
8,000 miles per set.
At the 24,353 mile mark, I shod the bike with the new Metzeler Sportec M-1.
I did this just to see if the latest in supersport tire technology was worth
the short mileage (FOR ME). This weekend, riding a total of about 560 miles
in two days, the rear has hit the wear bars. The odometer now reads 28,869,
so whuzzat....4,500 miles?
I admit to being rather ham-fisted with the throttle lately, otherwise I
think I could easily have gotten over 5,000 miles. That's still short
mileage as compared to the BT-020, the Pirelli GTS, the Avon AV35/36, or the
Michelin Macadam 100X. Granted, a rider better skilled than I would have no
problem riding harder/faster than me on any of those sport-touring tire
options, but I was so impressed with the overall improvement in performance
(and my riding), I'm going to use the M-1's again. The Metzelers warm up
very quickly, stick like glue, and after two days of rain riding, seem work
well in rain too. I did experience just a touch of two-wheel drift in a
(wet) 95mph sweeper, but otherwise the rain was managed well by the
Metzelers. YMMV
