I too try to adjust to the specs (35-40mm) at the tightest spot.  The new
DID 530ZVM isn't showing a tight spot yet, only 1k on it tho.  

I've notice the VFR wants 20-30mm of play, which seems a lot tighter in
reality than it does on paper over our 35-40mm.  At that level you can
just touch the chain to the rubber guide on the bottom of the swingarm.

I don't know why such a big difference either, but I have read it's better
to be a little loose than too tight, as tight introduces more wear?
