[ST] RE: Wobbly wheel

G'day All,
Well, i've gotten all carried away and stripped out the rear wheel and
suspension in search of this mysterious wobble. The swing arm is okay
(thanks for the tip Sheep Dawg) so i've left that bolted up, all the
suspension joints are good so they go back in tomorrow. I've found that the
outter of the 2 drive side hub bearings is failing and the inner one is
slightly loose on the axle, i'd say that as the outer one started to fail
it's put more weight on the inner bearing which has in turn put weight on
the axle which has either opened up the inner race of the inner bearing or
worn away a little of the axle, loctite bearing mount should fix this
easily. The needle roller bearing appears in good shape but i'll change it
out too, for safety's sake. Has anyone noticed how much ruubish gets in
through the hole in the bottom of the swing arm and collects in the
eccentric? Should there be a plug in this hole? I hope this will fix this
strange wobble feeling, if nothing else i know i'll be able to ride the 8
hours to the closest Triumph dealer without the rear wheel bearing
collapsing and leaving me stuck in the middle of nowhere!
While i was at it i pulled the tops off the forks to check the oil level and
condition, oil was grey looking and the right hand side one was approx an
inch lower than the left, closer inspection has revealed a blown fork seal
on the left, the fork leg is oily but no drips or oil on the wheels, brakes
etc. Is the oil level the same in both legs? if so i wonder where that oil
went. Is there a way to drop the oil out of the forks without removing them
from the bike? What type of oil should i replace it with? Any tips / tricks
i should be aware of when changing the seal?
Thanks in advance
