RE: [ST] Tire mileage (was: Nail-in-tire)

I've just about finished off my 3rd set of BT-020's on my Sprint RS. I could
perhaps stretch it another 1000 miles but since both tires have touched the
wear bars at the same time, I've just ordered up a set of the new Metzeler
M-1 Sportec.

History: The stock tires (or tyres, as you please) were looking OK at about
6800 miles, just started to get a flat spot. I had no time to replace them,
so I thought I'd be OK to head up to the Y2K R.A.T. "Yankee Raid" (called
the New England B&B Run back then.) By the time I got back home, I had a
little over 7500 miles on, and the flat spot was now a 2 inch wide one! But,
being the foolhardy idiot I am, I rode on them until the new ones came in.
By now the front was cupped so bad and the rear so flat, I didn't need to
use the side stand to hold the bike up. New ones on at 8800 miles. Whew,
won't do THAT again.

Next set was swapped out at 17,786. That's just about 10,000 miles! No long
trips of droning down the highway, the tires were worn nice & even. They
only saw the track for one day. Wish I could get that mileage again.
However, like the 1st of BT-020's, once the rear started to get a flat spot
they were gone within 1000 miles.

That's just like the ones on the RS right now. The big difference is the
mileage interval. I just went over 24,300. The rear started to show a flat
spot two weeks ago, and it went REALLY fast with just a couple hundred
miles. It might be that I've taken to doing hard starts, lofting the front a
bit now & then. (Just an inch or two, as I can't wheelie for beans.)

So my average is 8,000 miles from each set of Bridgestone BT-020. Curious to
see if these M-1's are as good as the press reports say they are, but I
haven't heard any word about expected miles form them. Anyone know how
they'll compare to my BT-020 experience?
