Re: [ST] new subject: ST & wheelies

BT, '01 ST came stock with a 19 tooth countershaft sprocket. This was
changed from the 18 tooth sprocket earlier versions were supplied with. I my
opinion, 19t is too tall for the ST. I changed to a 17t sprocket. Many
others have changed to an 18t sprocket. It's an easy, 1/2 hr job. I bought a
Triumph brand sprocket from Jack Lilley's.

The bike is much more throttle 'responsinve' at lower rpm's for around town
riding, and gearing just feels better...less hunting between 1st and 2nd for
the right gear.. As for highway speed, 4k rpm in 6th equals 62 mph, which I
don't find uncomfortable. I haven't really tried to yet, but past postings
indicate the 17t is the ticket for those wanting to do wheelies. Tradeoffs?
Slight decrease in gas mileage. More rapid rear tire wear if you're into
wicking it.

My .02,
Bill
