Lance,

Select a socket which has an outside diameter (OD) just smaller
than the OD of the clip for the clip side and one which fits in
the recess on the opposite side.  It helps to have a third hand
to position everything in the vise.  Then apply a bit of gentle
pressure & recheck for improved tension.  It won't take a lot of
clip movement to correct the problem.
