I have been carrying a G4 powerbook around in the top box of my bike for
over a year ~12k miles and it has held up pretty well. It has even survived
a tip over and an accident that destroyed the bike. THe iBooks are even
tougher. I don't know about mapping software for it though. I used to
use Street Atlas Usa several years ago but I dont know the status of it.
On the PC side panasonic makes a laptop called a toughbook. It is designed
for contruction sites and can even handle moisture.

My old sig was about Vaxen and VMS but I can't even figure out
