RE: [ST] Non-ST, Computing on the road

I've commuted >25k miles with laptops in my side cases for work. That's
roughly 16k miles in a Givi 22-liter side case on a Honda Nighthawk 750 (not
known for the most friendly suspension in the world) and ~9k miles on the
ST. Typically, it is not wrapped in layers of clothes either, it is just a
laptop in a case, stuffed in the side cases. I've had the same laptop for
the last 1.5 years at work and it still works just fine. I've also never
had to swap a laptop for any other reason than my IT department deciding the
one I've got is obsolete.

The only argument against a laptop might be that the GPS fits your needs
better. Frankly though, what is wrong with a damn map!? I've already got AAA
so that means free maps...as many of them as I can carry away with me. Every
state in the union, Canada and Mexico. Sure, it gets a little tricky when
you're in a city or town and you want to get down to street-level
nitty-gritty, but then, I enjoy getting lost...especially on the bike.

If you go with the laptop, get one as small as you are comfortable using for
the sheer reason that it takes up less space...
