RE: [ST] Oil thread time!



Apparently the 2002 manual is more restrictive than the '99 manual.  The
inconsistency between years and models is not helpful.  The '02 engine is
different, so maybe that's the cause.

You must have a different service manual than I do.  Mine says all of the
following but it says to use ...10W-40, 15W-40 or 15W50 fully synthetic
motorcycle engine oil...


Actually, page 8.5 of the factory service manual says,"All Triumph
fuel-injucted engines must be filled with 10W-40 or 15W-40 semi or fully
synthetic motorcycle engine oil which meets API-SG or API-SH *AND* JASO
MA specifications."  Than it says not to use 0W or 5W oils or 10W-50
oils.  It also says racing 4T meets and exceeds these minimum specs.
Under these rules, MX4T, which is a 10W-40, is perfect.  15W-50 in not
mentioned in the service manual.


It further says to use an oil that meets API-SG or API-SH specification and
does not mention the JASO rating.
