Re: frame sliders(Re: damage assessment(Re: [ST] ST's don't like to

Here's my experience with accidents and insurance. which is unfortunately considerable. First off any accident that is forceful enough to break a engine mount via the frame slider is going to scratch or bend the frame anyway. Body work is not going to stop that. If the frame is bent or scratched the bike is going to be totaled. There's also a good chance in a high side that the forks will be bent. If your Triumph is 2 years old and you bend the forks and say break the headlights and crack one or two panels, guess what, you've just totaled your bike. As much as we love our bikes the resale isn't all that great. If you exceed 70% of the current market value for your bike (not a new one) the insurance company will total the bike. Motorcycles are very easy to total out. That is why I use frame sliders, my frame sliders have saved my bike twice from being totaled. and if it had been totaled out I wouldn't have been able to afford a new Triumph, I just don't have the 5k difference between what they would have paid out to me and the cost of a new one.

True enough, a high-side can smack down pretty hard. However, the
slider would still seem to be a liability in this situation; I
would think the bodywork would be cheaper to replace than engine
pieces.
