[ST] The whole nine yards

Wrong on the term coming in the 60's.
I'm not a pilot, just a wannabee. But I have been a volunteer the Cavanaugh
Flight Museum in Addison since it opened. 32 restored WWI, WWII, Korean,
and Vietnam planes most in flying condition.
During that time I have heard many stories from our WWII flying friends on
a daily basic, banquets, other volunteer WWII vets, etc.
That was one of the first things they used to tell me. The ground crews
would look to see if the gun port patches were blown off. As the pilots
stepped out they would give them a grin and say that I gave them the whole
nine yards. According to most it started late in the war after we got air
superiority.
Charlie went from a P-51 to a L3! Imagine the speed difference. he said he
felt naked up there at low altitude with no guns. Better once he got his 51
back:-) Forced down a Luf General and his girlfriend on a joy ride before
the war was over by making the Mustang dirty (Flaps and gear down, nose up
at low power). He still laughs at the girls face when he pulled alongside.
