Re: [ST] salvage title and frame



Wes,
The frame is whats re-titled-able.  States are all diff, but the hard part
is getting a repaired bike re-titled (clean).  That 's where state law are
all diff.  In NY you have to take the repaired vehicle to DMV, not an
inspection station.  They take the bike and go over it to unsure it's again
street worthy.  If it passes, they issue the permission to the DMV to
re-issue a title.  This can take time.  Months in some cases.  All of this
information is available on a title search to future owners of the vehicle.
This process is the same for folkes attempting to get a title and reg for a
race bike (ie Ducati 998R, 748R) which has no title from the factory.  I
know guys waiting for months trying to get this completed.  They are often
seen riding their un-reg'd /un-titled bikes around Dutchess county avoiding
the Law! :)
