RE: [ST] '02 SSSA recall?

Just got back from picking up my '99. The dealer said no sooner than
he had finished repairing my bike than he received the recall notice.
Unfortunately Triumph is only concerned about a small batch of
bearings that are generally failing within the first 100 miles or so.
So even though mine failed in exactly the same mode as they describe,
I don't think I'll have a case with a '99 with 20k on it.

But to reiterate the symptoms just prior to it failing:

At first it started squealing when banking deep into left turns.
Sounded like brake squeal, and applying the rear brake in a turn
(very gently!) would stop the squeal. Gradually the noise became more
and more frequent (within about 25 miles) until it was squealing
almost constantly. After that the first time I slowed down it locked
up.

So if you hear a squeal from the rear end, I would stop riding the
bike as soon as practical.

As sexy as SSSA's are, I'm thinking maybe Triumph needs to rethink
their design.

>Sweet, this just gets better and better. I called my dealer, they just
>found out about this too, and they have no idea when replacement parts will
>arrive. The shop monkey I talked too, not the shop manager, actually said
>not to worry about it until I recieve notice. RIGHT! I'll worry about the
>possibility of the rear end locking up until the bearing is replaced,
>thankyouverymuch! This month just got longer.
