If it's not pinging, no problem.
If it's pinging, problem.
Lots of other factors can cause detonation, but if your bike is doing it
consistently, you either need higher octane fuel or find the alternate
cause. I your bike doesn't ping on 89 octane, that's fine, but basic
unleaded can be as low as (posted) 85 octane in some places.
Persistent fuel detonation rather than controlled burning will damage your
engine.
