[ST] Shipping bike

my ST came from South Carolina to Oklahoma via Cooper Trucking; Cooper has
[had?] the contract to deliver new Yamahas on the east coast. the
dealership shoehorned my ST into an R6 metal crate / box.

i believe Harleys are delivered tied down on substantial pallets that are
disposed of; a Harley dealer might be happy if you hauled one off for your
own purposes.

shipping insurance coverage on a new bike was like $5 a pound; on used,
$0.50 [!!]. i made sure the bike was covered under homeowners' and also
got the regular bike policy in place before shipping, in case they dropped
it in the bay. i asked about a one-time policy, like insuring a package w/
UPS - the truckers weren't aware of one, but surely someone is in the
business of taking that bet.

the shipping cost was about $100 less if you pick it up at the truck
terminal instead of delivering to the house [hint - it's easier if you
bring an ignition key...]. my total was about $200, instead of the approx.
$500 the 'regular' bike shippers were quoting me.

cheers
bp
