tyre temps/pressures: was RE: [ST] New ST owner - questions

Road surfaces here in Oz (as elsewhere I guess) range from good to
appalling. Unfortunately here in Queensland they are mostly the latter :(
In the UK (where I was bought up) and Europe they are much better. Best are
in Ireland and places like Portugal, parts of Spain, Italy and Scotland
where the EU pumped in squillions for infrastructure development.

But yes, here in Queensland it is hot.... (>28oC for 3 months, >25oC for 6
months) and consequently tyres do get very hot giving you good grip- perhaps
compensating for the lousy surfaces? I've not ridden my ST long enough to
make any sort of meaningful tyre comparison. All I can say is that both my
original 57s were toast after just 5k including 3 (2 hot) track days at
36/32 psi. Ran the new rear/front 020/010 combo at 40/34 for a ('cool'=
22oC) track day this week and was relieved to see that the rear didn't scuff
up anywhere near as badly as the (rear) 57 at 36 psi. But the (front) 010 at
34 psi felt a bit loose especially when half banked over and decelerating
and accelerating, suggesting that -perhaps- it was getting too hot/round
even on a comparatively cool day. Or perhaps that was just the difference
between the 010 and the 57, i.e. quicker steering?
