Well I suppose it's all in ~what~ your intended use is. And I think that is
something folks should think about long and hard before committing to a
particular machine. I am following the IBR pretty closely right now (should
be finishing up this weekend) and the FJR's are showing fairly well (not as
well as the BMW oilheads) and I think that type of riding is it's niche.
There are two Trophy 1200's in the rally this year and while not finishing
up top they are still in the hunt. One surprising thing is the scarcity of
the new Honda ST1300, only one that I know of. I think many that would have
gone with the ST1300 have opted for the GL1800 as it is much more
comfortable and handles just as well :)

So my take is the FJR, BMW-K12GT, ST-1300 and the like are great ~GT's~, but
get spanked by our ST's in the twisties. OTOH, the likes of the Futura,
ST4s, etc.... may be a bit more sport oriented than our ST's...but not
nearly as comfortable on the long haul. And that brings us right back to
the VFR vs. ST debate :))) Clearly the two best all-around Sport-touring
bikes available.

I will take the ST over the VFR for my own personal reasons, but that is not
to say the Honda is a dud. Go ride with Scott Friday or Brian sometime.
But I personally prefer the engine, ergo's and exclusiveness of the Triumph.
To me VFR's are ~OK~ the same way Budweiser is ok, but given the choice I
will take a "Shiner Blond" <bg>
