RE: [ST] New England Chapter of Triumph Sport

John,

I am humbled by your praise. I don't know that I deserve such, but thank
you.

For the record, I was a dues-paying member of the TSRA in its infancy, but
let my membership lapse for the lack of being able to get the few other TSRA
members in this New England area to ride together, despite my offers of
leading group rides over some of my own familiar routes. I had even offered
to host a "New England Rally", but got zero response from TSRA members.

I had also got involved in R.A.T. with a dear friend, Peter Ianniciello, now
of Ohio. Together we evolved his brainchild, and the New England Bed &
Breakfast Run which became the New England Raid. Not big numbers, but I
could see, as you note, a "brotherhood" was developing. Greg Casey then
changed its format however, and my input was no longer needed.

In October of 2002, I started my own, more focused, Yahoo.com-based group
that I call the Northeast Triumph Sport Riders. We have a BLAST when we get
together. Its a very cohesive group, with an extremely diverse range of
personalities that just seem to get along great. We have 5 UK natives, 4
Canadians, an Aussie, a bunch of mongrel Americans (like me), and one very
special Irishman who makes the group rich with laughter.

Last year, I managed to get about 30 Triumph riders together for a track day
at New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon. Yes, I did have to open
it to others to avoid taking a bath (financially speaking), but with
co-sponsors like Great Bay Motorcycles (North Hampton NH) and Performance
Cycles (Shrewsbury MA), the Triumph riders there all got some good laps and
some Triumph swag. I put in some cash toward prizes too, as I wanted EVERY
rider to come away with something more than the grin. Our day was cut in
half by the only rainstorm EVER to shut down the track for the day. Turn 12
was well under water, as was the tunnel out of the infield. Riders there
have a healthy credit toward a day early in '04.

I am currently awaiting the date for the 2004 Triumph Track Day. It will be
hosted by the membership of the NTSR, I will just be the "go-to" guy. I
expect to be offering a discount to members of R.A.T., TSRA, and other
Triumph-oriented groups. While I would LOVE to host this at the new track
under development, for now it's still little more than a good paper plan.
(They do however, have all the permits, some of the money, and all of the
ambition.) It's actually located another hour north of Loudon, in Tamworth
NH. If it gets done, I'll book it!

I will keep this list informed as I get more details of either.

Thanks again, Mr. Petrey.

Over the years of the ST/RS List and the TSRA I've watched both evolve. Or
as with the TSRA devolve in certain regions.
From time to time a region will flourish while another one that had a lot
of vitality 12 months prior dries up. Some of the causes are events such as
several rabid STers crash or sell their bikes, get married or otherwise
die. One area that seems to have been doing very well overall for a LONG
time is anchored in Massachusetts by Ken Mitchell. Group rides are the
liquor of the Triumph SportBrotherhood and they have a bunch of 'em. But
what qualifies the NE chapter for todays award is his organization of the
"Triumph Only Track Day". Nice job Ken. Keep up the good work. I hope to
make to both the rides and one of your track days sometime soon.

And for your next assignment Ken get us a track day set up at this SUPER
looking new roadrace facility (no NASjunk allowed, hoepfully) in Nerry, New
Hampshire.

I have my eye on a 2000 Sapphire Blue ST with 1875 miles on it. The guy
says he'll take $6K which I think is pretty good.
