I for one would welcome the opportunity to pay my $10 and not get a
magazine.
Perhaps if they didn't spend so much money trying to get more money out of
me, then that $10 would go far. I wouldn't be surprised if out of that
$49/year $39 went to the magazine and postage for fund raising.
I'd rather they get my $10 and leave me alone. If I want info on what
they're doing, I can check their website and don't need anything to be
printed and sent in the mail.
Perhaps they can call it an online-only membership?
Maybe the AMA should consider another level of
>membership, say, "AMA supporter" without the monthly mag, that's 10 bucks a
>year according to the AMA's own numbers, and possibly they could drop off
