Hey folks,

In case anyone is wondering...I bought a new '99 Tiger in the summer of that
year and after a few thousand miles found myself wishing for more power.
So, after having read about Brian Olson of Turbo Connections in one of the
big motorcycle rags (Cycle World?) I sent the beast off to him in exchange
for 20% off the list price for allowing him to experiment with my bike, the
first Tiger he's done (and only one so far). I've spent lots of time
hanging turbos on cars and driving a wide variety of turbo'd vehicles on the
road and on the track so I knew what to expect. Oh, and I wanted it to be
drivable for my urban commute and 200-500 mile days on weekends with the
girlfriend aboard.

When I first got it back from Brian I was very impressed....first class
workmanship. There was a drivability issue that forced me to have Brian
take the bike back until that issue was addressed. It took a visit from
Wayne McDonald of Tuneboy fame to reverse-engineer the Sagem EFI program to
expose the issue, which has been dealt with. Even with the stumbling on
light load the damn thing went like stink. Wanna wheelie in top gear,
merely open the throttle! It'll pick the front end up nice and easy! If
you blast off from a stop forget watching the tach 'cause you'll never react
in time to shift before it hits the rev limiter! Starts and riding around
town are like before the turbo, and the mileage is down only slightly (I
wonder why!) Brian installs stiffer clutch springs which are definitely
noticeable but not objectionable.

I don't believe in street racing and the sportbikers around here are only
into cruising up and down main street not strafing back roads so I don't
really know how it stacks up other than the few times I have been beside one
at a stoplight they have not been able to keep up. The bike gets mucho
attention from kids, both boys and girls. I love the sound of the turbo and
the 3 cylinder engine, the sound is like a turbo Porsche, which I love.

Now that the surging problem is fixed the bike is supremely tractable, but
with a wild side just waiting to be unleashed. My two sportbike buddies
can't believe how strong it is. Once you ride it you want one!

I might add that Brian is a degreed engineer, and knows what he is doing
concerning the turbo, the bike, and the fabrication and programming of his
add-on EFI controller. He's also a nice guy, loves to ride and loves what
he's doing. I personally have full confidence in him. He has his own dyno
too. My bike checked out at near 79HP before the turbo, and about 120HP at
5 psi of boost on pump gas, and 140HP at 7 psi with avgas! Go to
www.boostisgood.com to see for yourselves! He can do monster modifications
to get over 200HP!

Now I'm thinking about adding another bike to my stable, and the Sprint ST
is the bike of choice. My dealer is going to let me take one for an
extended test ride when the weather breaks and we'll see how it is. But
it'll be a LOT better with a turbo on it!

Anyway, thanks to all those who e-mailed me pics of themselves and/or their
bikes...now I've got lots of good wallpaper to keep me cheered up during the
last weeks of winter here in the American midwest!
