I had similar experiences with my 18t installed.

With the 17t, I see a 2-3 mpg drop. Where I expect to get 48-50
mpUSg with the 18t, I get 45-48 with the 17t. Last weekend we
rode far enough out of the Portland metro area to be able to buy
non-oxygenated* gas. The bike ran noticably better & even with
spirited riding, mileage increased to 48.5.

* Portland is one of many areas in the US where the EPA mandates
oxygenated gas (10% ethanol) in the winter months to combat
ozone. It makes most engines run like sh*t.
