I think a key element missing from this debate is that the ST and the
FJR aren't in the same category (hence it's not mentioned).  Even
Yamaha's own classification says "Super Sport Touring".  I don't know of
any bikes that have been compared to the FJR because it's sort of in a
class by itself right now.  However, it is an alternative considered by
someone who might ride an ST.

If you mean in terms of good torque low in the power band, yes.  In
terms of reliability, I would beg to differ.

I thought the brakes on the FJR were straight off the R1?  In other
words, they're top-notch.  I'm not saying they're better than the
Sprint's because I don't know.  But I bet that there's not much
difference.

Well, I believe he let his money do the talking.  To each his own,
though.
