Steve, you've jogged my memory a bit now too. I also SWEAR by (and carry on
my person) the Leatherman Wave tool. Best damn tool there is for my
purposes. I can flip open either of two VERY sharp blades without opening
the body, and it's rounded edges are easier on the hand than others when
using the inside tools.

Also in my tankbag is my spare key, a few zipties, some Motul chain lube, a
2 AA Maglight, a notepad and pens, a kickstand plate, some highliters (for
charting routes on the maps) and a shop rag.

When I mount my Triumph Sport Panniers, I add the first aid kit, electrical
tape, duct tape, a few more tools, an air compressor (adapted to use the
"BMW" accessory outlet) and a lot of the same stuff you mention. I do need
to add those small Vise Grips.
