[ST] What are the holes on the seat for?

On my '02 Sprint ST there is a black piece of plastic
covering each side.  I thinking this is where the
factory luggage mounts?  BUt then again it's going
into the seat foam....hrm....Anyone know?  never
inspected an ST up close with the hard luggage.
