RE: [ST] Slipper clutch

I believe it is a ratchet-like mechanism that releases to prevent the rear
wheel from "pushing" the engine. for instance, a bike so equiped would
hace little, or no, engine braking going downhill. Two-strokes behave this
way. The result is you can downshift headed for a turn and not slide the
tire if you downshift too early.

I did some searching for "slipper clutches". Couldn't find an explaination
suitable for the mechanically impaired.

This is a sales pitch I found on the STM website:
"STM patented system avoids the rear wheel blocking in detached phase. With
the clutch automatic mechanism, the pilot is not obliged to keep his finger
on the left lever in detached phase to make the clutch slide and can
concentrate on other driving phases."

But I still don't understand what they mean. Could someone please elaborate
on what at "slipper clutch" is and why someone would want one.

I've been on the list since 1999. I don't remember anyone ever doing this
with a Sprint ST. I have to agree with Chuck, an instructive trackday, or
riding school, would probably do more good.
