No problem.  Here are some "strikes":

You're tired, hungry, or cold.
You're not wearing your full safety kit.
You're impaired w/ drugs or alcohol.
You're having work or personal problems that keep distracting you.
You're speeding or otherwise pushing the envelope.
The weather is bad: rain, high winds, fog.
The surface is bad: wet, gravel, construction debris.
It's late on a weekend or holiday night when other drivers may have been drinking.
Your machine is not running properly, or has mechanical problems.
Traffic is very heavy, due to a special event, heavy rush hour, construction.

You should try to leave home with *no* strikes.  If you can't do that, take the car.  You'll live enough longer to get more miles in on the bike than if you push it.

One strike: be more careful, more alert, more aware.  

Two strikes: take immediate steps to remove one strike, such as take another route, stop for a nap or a bite or to wait for the rain to stop or the traffic to let up or to attend to your mechanical issue, slow down and get off the edge of the envelope.

Three strikes: you're dead.
