[ST] Question on gearing

I decided to put a smaller front sprocket on the RS, as I'm
not happy with the gearing when I'm in the twisties up here
in the high Sierra Nevada mountains. I checked the Sprocket
Specialist web page to see what they had to offer, and noted
they indicated the stock gearing on an RS is 18/43, so I
ordered a 17 tooth front sprocket. My Haynes manual doesn't
specify the gearing, so I went with what Sprocket Specialist
said. However, I just now took off the sprocket cover to do
the change and see that the current sprocket is 19T. :-(
Many of you have changed your front sprockets and I think
some of you are running 17. What is the general opinion on
this? How is long distance touring affected by the 17/19
difference? Should I send the 17 back and get an 18, or try
out the 17? 17 is a big drop from 19, percentage-wise, so
I'm unsure what to do at this point.

Thanks for any pearls of wisdom! :-)
