Kieth,
The 43/18 gearing was fitted to 2000 & earlier Sprints. I run
the 43/17 on my '01 ST and love it. Much less clutch feathering
is required in slow maneuvering and you're on the power right now
when pulling away from a stop. You'll notice ~2mph per 1000 rpm
difference in 6th compared to the 43/19. On my bike, 4000rpm
indicates* 64mph; 5k = 80 etc. In my normal operation, I
routinely see 49-54 mpg - not much less than with taller gearing.
You'll notice a touch more chain clatter with an undamped
aftermarket sprocket.
