Not normal.  I was ill for a few weeks, and started my '00 BRG ST up on 
Wednesday for the first time in 3 weeks and it started, as ever, after the 
second whud of the engine.  You know:
whud, whud, vroooom.

It's always like this, and I was impressed it started so quickly, even 
though the battery (probably the original) had lost a bit of oomph over the 
3 weeks of sitting draining through the alarm, so the whuds were a bit 
slower than usual.  Oh, and I'd switched on the sidelight for a couple of 
minutes to do the tyre pressures (in the dark) before starting it too.

Yes, every time I start the Sprint, I smile :-)  Sorry yours isn't so quick 
to please!
