[ST] Headers and Exhaust

I bought a can for my RS and it wouldn't fit!  the collector to can pipe 
was too long. 

Guess what, I have an ST exhaust on my RS.  The collector is 2 - 3 
inches farther rearward than the RS collector is supposed to be.  I was 
told about 20% of the RSs get ST exhaust systems because Triumph runs 
out of the RS exhaust.  Anybody else run into this?  Any idea how the 
longer ST exhaust system would change engine performance?
